We are having a challenge over at the Oasis! My friend and DT member Melita has a blog challenge regarding how you feel about Christmas. Do you think it is too commercialized? Do you teach your kids the true meaning of Christmas? Check out the challenge at www.scrapbook-oasis.com
Here are a few of my thoughts:
I have always loved Christmas. As a kid I remember being so excited about all the presents I would get. Well, now I have kids of my own and they are counting down the days until Santa Claus comes! It is all very exciting. We even have a little "countdown to Christmas" chalkboard. The kids change the number of days every morning. I need to get out to the stores and finish all my shopping. We still need to put up a tree and get some lights outside. So...do I think that Christmas is commercialized??? For sure!
Not that I think the whole Santa, reindeer and present thing is ridiculous I just know that some people, including myself, don't always think about Jesus when Christmas is mentioned. I talked to Kate this afternoon about what Christmas really is and she didn't know it is Jesus' birthday. I actually felt bad. Like I wasn't teaching my kids enough. I did talk to her and she mentioned her Grandma's manger set. She said it was so pretty and she couldn't wait to go over and see where she is going to put it this year.
One thing I do know is even though we think about Santa and presents and getting together with our family. I do know and do care that it has a much bigger meaning than just gift giving!

So true Janet, but I think most are guilty of the same thing (I know I am). We enjoy our children's pleasure so much this time of year it's hard not to. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I don't have children to teach (yet), but I myself definitely do the Jesus thing. For me, Christmas has always meant attending church services and singing Christmas (and Advent) hymns. Don't get me wrong, there's a definite element of secular holiday cheer as well, but in the end, that service on Christmas Eve and/or Christmas Day has the most meaning. Santa represents all that is good about Christ and Christmas - a true giver in every way!
Loved your post and I agree... it is so fun watching our children's faces light up when they open up gifts and see what they asked for under the tree...I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!
