More of the September Kit!

Hello again!  It's time to show you more of my creations using the September Kit!  The colors in this months kit really are gorgeous.  I am loving the yellow, and for my layout I used a lot.  I took some Instagram pictures of Kate and I at the fair this summer that seemed perfect for the papers.  I cut out some of the chevron pattern and added them to the top and bottom of the layout to draw the eye to the pictures.  Then I layered 3 different patterned  papers in the center and put the pictures in block style.

I added some washi tape and did a little bit of sewing too.

I left one of the spaces open for the mixed font title.  I used the American Craft Thickers that are in the kit, some tiny alphas from my stash and cut the "FAIR" out using pattered paper and my Cameo.

I distressed the little alphas to give it that used look. 

Now for my card.  Don't fall out of your seat girls.  I used a FLOWER!!  Can you believe it?  It wasn't hard at all! LOL.  I used more of the Close Knit paper but these are softer then the ones I used on the layout.  The minty green color at the top is so pretty.

The ruler ribbon is folded toward each end and I used pop dots to give it some dimension. 

Then I added the flower with a wonderful little enamel dot and cut out a tag from one of the patterned papers in the kit extras. I cut a little slit in the tag and tucked it under the dot so it would stay.  I love making "hey" cards just to have when I need a card to send to someone.  Now, what will you creative with your September Kit?  Make sure you show us when you are done!

 

 

 

Loving September!

What a way to start my first month for the DT!  I am having such a great time with the September Kit!!  I love the colors, extras, and all the embellishments.  For my first layout I used papers from the Crate Paper "Close Knit" line.  I layered some pieces of patterned paper and journaling spots.  I did some fussy cutting with the camera paper and added a camera to the corner of my design.  It might be hard to tell, but I added a photo overlay to my Instagram picture and I love it.  The overlays are definitely a great part of the kit!  They are just a fun way to add something to your pictures!

I cut out some journaling spots from one of the sheets in the extras kit.  I stamped the date and did a little journaling above the picture.  I added a little distressing to some of the edges too.

I just love the layered borders in the kit.  I added one to the top of my page with a little subtitle.  It even has the stitching right on it!  They are all so cute!

For my second layout I went with a different color scheme but it is still papers from the Close Knit line. The yellow and blue just look so good together so I had to used them.  Part of my title is made form the American Craft Thickers that come in the kit and the "my" in the title is made from some of the patterned paper and cutting it with my Cameo.  I did some layering, added the picture of my sweet dog and added the title and journaling.  I think it's a totally different feel from my first page.  Another reason to love the kit Amy put together.  You can do so much with it.

First Tutorial for BOAF DT!

Hi everyone!  It's time for my first technique post at Birds of A Feather.  Ok, so it was supposed to be a few days ago but our computer/internet wasn't going to let that happen.  But now we are up and running!

I don't know about you, but I love the cute Instagram frames that are popular right now.  So, I thought I would use some frames and show you they are not just for pictures. I've seen this idea on several layouts throughout Pinterest but I don't remember which ones.  If you don't have the Instagram frames, any size frame will work for this.    First I got all my supplies together.  I planned on using everything pictured but of course that changed when I started creating the page. 

Now I started laying out the pictures and frames.  I knew I wanted the frames to overlap, so I put the pictures close together then added the frames. I love that these frames have places to add journaling.

I just kept repeating this process with my 4 frames, making sure they were a little staggered and overlapped.  I think it gives it a little more of a casual fun feel.  (at least that's what I think.)

The fourth frame is not holding a picture.  This is where I changed it up a bit.  Instead of framing one of my pictures, I wanted to use it for framing some of my embellishments. 

I tucked some phrase tags under the edge of the frame.  I layered a few down the side, then I made them pop a little by outlining them with a black Sharpie. I used a pop dot to adhere the star.

 

To give the page some finishing touches, I added my new favorite embellishment, enamel dots, some washi tape to a few of the frames and then outlined the whole design in black.  And this is what the final layout looks like...

 

I had a lot of fun with this page and I hope it inspires you to either pull out your frames or go out and buy some.  If you do, I would love to see your layout.  It's quick and easy and gives your pictures and embellishments a little more UMPH!

Cropping this Weekend!

Birds of a Feather Kit Co. is having a Lovebirds weekend crop! The DT has posted some great inspiration on the boards to get you in the scrapbooking mood! I've managed to get two done so far and I'm working on a third. If you have time, head over to the site and see what challenges are posted!   These are the two I have done so far. Hoping to get all of them done by Wednesday...which is the deadline for submissions. 

Photo Op

So, yesterday my darling teenage son forgot his math book at school. After reminding him several times to bring it home, you could say I was not happy when he told me he didn't have it. Since he had some assignments to redo I had to take him up to school to get the book. Now, I always have my point and shoot camera in my purse since you never know when a picture opportunity will present itself. Right? Right! And a photo op jumped right out at me yesterday. I planned on taking a pic of Ty and his locker before we even left the house. But I didn't know it would work out so well. His locker is right under the school sign. Then Tyler was even wearing his "Class of '17" sweatshirt. Locker, school name, and class sweatshirt. HOW COULD I NOT TAKE A PICTURE? Even though I was annoyed with him it didn't stop me from getting a good picture. Sometimes it's just too good to pass up! Don't tell him I'm glad he forgot his book.

I know. I know. It's been a while. I said I would keep my blog up and I haven't. I've been posting on Facebook and other galleries and haven't paid attention to this. So, I thought I'd post some layouts to catch up a bit. I did this one for a sketch challenge at Birds of a Feather
